so, a couple of weeks ago i was downstairs in my daughter's closet and noticed this...
that, my friends, is a bubble of water that had been sliding down behind the paint. i started feeling the wall around it and realized we had a MAJOR leak somewhere in our house!
when the husband got home, we discovered that the toilet from the master bathroom had been leaking for who knows how long; down through the subfloor and into two closets downstairs.
utah disaster kleenup came and had to rip out most of the girl's closet, part of the playroom closet, and gut our bathroom since our subfloor was molded and rotting (nice, right?!)
i'm not gonna lie. i was secretly happy this happened.
i've never loved our teeny master bathroom and had actually been plotting it's remodel on pinterest (follow me!} before any of this happened. so to have the excuse to remodel AND have our insurance pay for it was pretty much awesome.
so here's a before of the bathroom (i had a feeling once we discovered the leak that a full demo was upon us)
ugly tile. ugly countertop. rogue hair dye streaking the white cabinet. no bueno.
and here's how it looks as of now.
tom's been working really hard on it and i can't wait for the final reveal!
here's a peek at what direction we're going in...

cabinet color
i've had a couple of blog comments and emails with people wondering what color my kitchen cabinets are.
the problem was that the color i had originally bought was way too purple, so i ended up taking it back and making them add a bunch of yellow to it.
well, i found the paint can and it has the label on top that shows the color numbers!
the first label shows the original color "montpelier ashlar gray" (with the color numbers that were dispensed) and then the other label is where i believe they show the yellow color they added.
hope this helps someone!
if anyone tries the color let me know how it works out!

sucker for a sunburst
the husband and i were at home depot yesterday picking out everything for the new bathroom when i saw this beauty from across the room...

i'm a bit of a hoarder when it comes to mirrors and had ZERO need for another one but when it comes to anything sunburst i'm pretty much a helpless tub of goo. when i saw the price was only $34 it was on like donkey kong!
i am obsessed with it!

easter 2012
with the flooding (and subsequent demolition) of our house (a post for a later time...), things have been a bit chaotic around here, so we didn't have a chance to dye eggs until easter morning.
(the easter bunny doesn't come until you dye eggs, so he came and hid the eggs while we were at church!)

{poor baby jake had to stand on his tips and watch us}

i always love how the tie-dyed eggs turn out and they're so dang easy to do!

our official easter 2012 picture. this was pretty much the only picture that jakey stuck around for and sawyer didn't have his finger shoved up his nose... you get what you get with 4 kids!

then it was time to find the eggs!

stay tuned for an update on the great flood of 2012!
