meet buttercup

when i was little we used to collect caterpillar eggs, watch them hatch and grow into big fat caterpillars, spin into a chrysalis and then emerge as a monarch butterfly.

this year, my girlies and i are doing the same thing and it's been really fun!

miss has loved watching 'buttercup' grow every day and gets her a new leaf every morning!

stay tuned for her progress!

Ah, where did you find it? We have a butterfly house and I want to do butterflies again, but never know where to find them, did you just get lucky?

I so remember doing this with you, remember when we went to the field by Manglesons? Oh the good ol' days!

We used to do this all the time too! My grandma had tons of milkweed around her house and they were FULL of monarch caterpillars. I honestly don't remember a time in the summer when we didn't have at least 5 jars in my garage with caterpillars or cocoons in them. Excellent project to do with your kids. Thanks for reminding me of this fun memory!

We always did that and still do. My girls love it!
